Boxoft free AVI to WMV Converter is a program that can convert AVI video files into the WMV format. WMV (Windows Media Video) is a codec that uses the MPEG compression method. It is used by several portable devices, such as Microsoft Zune, Xbox 360 and other Windows Mobile-powered devices with Windows Media Player.
Boxoft AVI Converter comes with several pre-made profiles for converting AVI files to WMV files that can be played on Zune devices, but you can also use the Standard profile, or customize your own. You can choose your own Image Settings (frame size and aspect ratio), Video Settings (bitrate, frame rate, constraint), and Audio settings (audio code, channel, bitrate and frequency).
This program offers two conversion methods: a batch file converter, that will let you choose several files to convert at once, and the Hot Directories Mode. This last mode allows the user to specify a folder into a server that the program will scan periodically. If it finds new AVI files, it will perform their conversion to WMV files.
The interface includes buttons that seem to be intended to allow conversions to MPEG, MP4, FLV, MOV and MP3, but they are useless. The only button that works is the one targeted to perform conversion to WMV files.
